Getting a comfortable mouth piece is essential for feeling good on the field. There are tons of mouthpieces to choose from and I will give you some recommendations on what I found to be the most comfortable.
Sometimes the cheapest options are the best. There are some super cheap and standard mouth pieces that you can get for under a dollar and mold yourself to your teeth. These work just as well as what you get at the dentist and that will charge you up to $30. Cheap Mouthpiece
Mouthpiece for braces. If you have braces you are going to want to get a mouthpiece that specifically says that is functional for use with braces. These are more expensive but totally necessary and you are not going to want to mold these. Braces Mouthpiece

The best looking mouthpiece. In my opinion the coolest looking mouthpiece is the “lip guard” mouthpiece that players such as Marshawn Lynch wore in the picture above. That is a functional mouth piece and looks the coolest but I would not recommend it if your position does a lot of yelling, such as quarterback or defensive play caller. Second I would say is a mouthguard with no strap so it almost looks as if you are not even wearing a mouthpiece. You can get custom images on some or a unique cool color. Lastly, the mouthpiece with a strap attached to the facemask serves a good purpose but looks the worst in my opinion. You could buy one of those and cut the strap off because they are generally the cheapest.

How to mold your Mouthpiece.
- Boil a small pot of water.
- Fill a small bowl with cold water
- Grab the mouthpiece by the strap. Dip the mouthpiece in the boiling water while keeping hold of the strap. Hold the mouthpiece in the water for 30 seconds or as directed by the manufacturer.
- Pull the mouthpiece out of the boiling water after the 30 seconds and place it in the bowl of cold water. Hold the mouthpiece in the cold water for the amount of time about one to three seconds.
- Insert the mouthpiece into your mouth immediately after removing it from the cold water. Work quickly to get the mouthpiece into the correct position before the material hardens. Place the mouthpiece fully into your mouth, so that your back teeth are covered. Use your fingers, if necessary, to adjust the mouthpiece into position. Bite down on the mouthpiece firmly, but not hard, to make an imprint of your teeth.
- Remove the mouthpiece from your mouth and place it back in the boiling water for two seconds while keeping hold of the strap.
- Pull the mouthpiece out of the boiling water and give it a quick shake to remove the excess water. Quickly put the mouthpiece back into your mouth, adjust it so that it sits all the way into your mouth and covers your back teeth and bite down once again. Place your forefinger and thumb in your mouth, while continuing to bite down on the mouthpiece, and press down the mouthpiece against all of your teeth.
- Remove the mouthpiece from your mouth and hold it under running tap water for 10 seconds.
- Submerse the mouthpiece in the bowl of cold water and leave it to cool and set for two minutes.
- Remove the set mouthpiece from the cold water. Place it in your mouth again and take note of any sharp or uncomfortable areas that you can cut off with scissors.
- If you make a bad mold you can always start over and mold it again.
