- A football field is 100 yards long, plus 10 yards on each side for the end zone.
- Each team has 11 players on the field at all times
- The line of scrimmage is where the ball is hiked from at the beginning of each play. (blue or white line on TV)
- The offense has 4 tries, called downs, to either gain 10 yards or score. It is called a first down when this occurs. (Yellow line on TV)
- A sack is when the Quarterback gets tackled behind the line of scrimmage.
- There are 5 ways to score points:
- Touchdowns: 6pts
- Field Goals: 3pts
- Extra Points: 1pt
- 2pt Conversions: 2pts
- Safeties: 2pts
- There are 4 ways the Offense turns the ball over to the other team called a turnover:
- An Interception is when the defense catches a pass
- A Fumble is when the offense drops the ball and the defense picks it up
- When the offense is unable to get a first down in 4 tries called a turnover on downs.
- When the offense punts or kicks the ball on 4th down
- Special Teams are when the teams are kicking field goals, punting or kicking off
- The yellow flags the referees throw are for penalties
- Away teams wear White and the Home team wears their Team Colors
